Nätverket Garden is a network for the next generation of leaders. What distinguishes the new generation of leaders?
The new generation of leaders is value-driven and takes a long-term approach. We also see a growing need for health-promoting leadership as mental illness, stress, and burnout increase as societal phenomena. We also see that the younger generation values balance between work and private life to a greater extent, which is why we work to promote leadership that makes room for life.
As the world changes faster and faster, industry and professional boundaries are becoming increasingly blurred. The next generation of leaders needs to be more of a generalist and focus on the knowledge of leading people and the various dimensions of leadership, rather than being specialists or knowledgeable in their specific areas of operation.
We believe that a central part of the development of the new generation of leaders is the exchange across generations, in both directions. Young people need to learn from experienced leaders how leadership takes shape in practice, and older leaders need to gain younger insights to position themselves correctly for the future.

Recent surveys show that interest in becoming a leader is decreasing among younger people in the labor market. What is your opinion, is this true, and why is it so?
Many surveys show a decreasing proportion who want to lead or an overall low number who see themselves as leaders in their careers.
With Europe's oldest managers, we see this as a crucial issue. There will be an inevitable pension shift and "millennials" will soon be the largest group in the labor market. We want to inspire, develop and enable the next generation of leaders to take over the baton by offering free leadership development for young people all over Sweden.
We largely believe that the decreasing interest in leadership is due to prejudices about the role of manager, or the view of leadership and management as interconnected. The job of manager has also become increasingly administratively burdened over time, with less room to actually lead.
At the same time, younger people want to be involved and contribute to change and development to a greater extent. We work to convey the importance of leadership in relation to this, both in the form of self-leadership and in terms of leading others.

What do today's organizations need to think about in order to attract young talents?
Nätverket Garden wants to help small organizations attract, develop and retain young leadership talents. The new generation of leaders (and young people in general) want to be involved and contribute. They also want to constantly develop and see skills development as a lifelong process. Giving space and resources for this must be a priority, in combination with an organizational culture that promotes honesty, openness and lack of prestige. Organizations must also understand that younger people are more attracted to employers who match their values.
Younger people want to feel involved and meaningful in their work and they want to contribute to the organization's larger strategic goals. Here, organizations can position themselves better towards younger employees by communicating their values and purpose as an organization in a clear way.
We are working on developing a company offer to help small organizations find their way in this jungle. We want to help them attract, develop and retain their future leaders and welcome all contact to create this together.
