What does good leadership mean to you? Being a manager is a title, being a leader requires that you have earned trust

What does good leadership mean to you?
Being a manager is a title, being a leader requires that you have earned trust among both employees and the outside world. For me, good leadership is to show clear commitment to the task and to the people. To be there as support in decisions when needed, but also dare to give employees confidence to drive their own issues. The balance between leading by controlling and leading through others is a challenging, but interesting part of the leadership role.

Can you share some important lessons from your time as a leader that have influenced your leadership style?
As a young leader, I was with a group in England where we witnessed a fatal accident. It took a few minutes before we got the whole group together and could ascertain that no one from our group was affected. It has probably affected me in a way that makes me try to ensure that "everyone is included", both figuratively and literally.

In the "Under the Skin" podcast, you talk about greed. The opposite of this is generosity. What are your thoughts on this virtue?
I certainly appreciate getting, but think it's even more fun to give. Being generous is often linked to gifts or money, but in the leadership situation it is more about generosity of trust and confidence. Privately, I am generous with appreciative feelings, in the professional roles I am generous with time. Working on balancing this better in both cases
