What does good leadership mean to you?
A good leader focuses on ensuring that employees and the business succeed. They encourage, listen, follow up, and drive progress, while also recognizing each individual's potential and helping them overcome difficulties, enabling them to achieve more than they thought possible.
Can you share an important lesson from your time as a leader that has significantly influenced your leadership style?
Many years ago, someone lost patience with me and told me off, saying that I had to stop assuming everyone else has the same capacity as I do. That was useful for me. I try to remember that now, that everyone has different capacities and conditions. The consequence is that I cannot treat everyone the same. It is fairer to treat each person in the way they need.
In the "Under the Skin" podcast, you talk about envy. What are your thoughts on envy in leadership and in your career?
I think that envy is a sign that you are not really satisfied with your own life or your own choices. Especially in social media, we see so many examples of "successful people," and it is easy to miss that what is shown is only the positive, that no one flaunts the negative. There are probably some who envy me my position, for example, but if they knew how tough, responsible, and scary it can be, how much you have to sacrifice in your private life, they might change their minds.
