You lead a business with good growth and a business with high complexity. What is important to consider when recruiting new leaders?
I am looking for people who have understood that collaboration and teams deliver results faster than individuals. Today, I prefer to choose leaders with solid experience in their field as it provides the fastest and best development. To be a good change leader, you need to know "what good looks like" in order to get us there quickly. I lead a global company, so I also need leaders who can collaborate and respect others regardless of background and language and do not forget to include those they do not see every day in the office.
How do you create a healthy culture that streamlines collaboration between people in the organization?
We try to live by our values as leaders and help employees understand what we mean and what it means in practice to live up to our values. For me, it is our values that deliver the strategy, it requires everyone to be engaged and contribute. Everyone has a place with us, are important and we try to stimulate innovation through established structures with daily quick meetings, improvement boards etc. that are taken from the lean philosophy. Our employees get to share their good ideas with others and I think that is the best way to stimulate change work, better than when only the managers try to drive change. We also work to stimulate a solution-oriented collaborative climate where we reward the right behaviors to get the effect we want. "Heroic efforts" are not rewarded, but collaboration is rewarded.
The rate of change is high in both society and business. What is your main success factor as a leader for managing the rapid development?
I try to be awake and keep up with various trend analyses to understand how markets, customers and employees are shifting in terms of values etc. I set aside a certain amount of my time to meet others both within and outside the industry. In addition to getting an ear to the ground, I also get inspired and get strength and energy from these meetings with knowledgeable, well-read people. By discussing changes in our environment in my management team, we help each other stay up to date and development comes naturally. We have time to agree on a strategy along the way in our discussions. Today, it is also lightning fast to share articles, thoughts and new findings with each other, which is fantastic.
