Inspirational of the week - Maria Kjellson

Maria, you often say "you don't want to die curious"; how is it visible in your professional career that you dare to try new things, dare to try?

Have resigned several times and not had new jobs both because I felt finished and want to try something new. My motto is that you should have fun at work and that you don't want to die curious. I am also not a manager, but want to develop all the time. My biggest "step" I took in 2021 when I bought another magazine - Havets Magasin - as a complement to my previous one - Hampholmen - which I had for 15 years but more as a "hobby" as I all the time also had a "real job". I then chose to invest completely in my own business, something I have not regretted a day even if it is not always a bed of roses.

You have chosen to work in the hospitality industry, with a clear focus on Bohuslän; why is that?

That choice is easy because I am a "Bohuslän native" in soul and heart! I grew up in Hunnebostrand and, after various excursions, now live on Smögen and love everything related to the sea. Both the salty swims, the fresh seafood, and all the activities offered. I want to share this with others through my businesses.

What drives you and what you do?

Many years ago, I attended a lecture by Yngve Bergqvist, the founder of the ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi. He said - "dig where you stand". That is something that I have carried with me – to develop what is typical and genuine for the area and not complicate things. So, in addition to my businesses being located by the sea, the packages and activities I offer are strongly associated with the sea. Everything from shellfish safaris to kayaking and winter swimming. And of course, food with fresh seafood and fish. My goal is to deliver good hospitality and have satisfied guests. I want the guests to leave with a smile on their faces and with the feeling that they want to come back. And not least, I like doing business!
