This week's inspiration, Jenny Randau Mellander, shares her best leadership tips when leading in a changing environment!

This week's inspiration, Jenny Randau Mellander, shares her best leadership tips in times of change, perhaps one of the toughest challenges a leader can face.
In an increasingly changing world, leadership through change and growth is no longer a choice but a necessity. We spoke with Jenny, an experienced leader, to get her perspective on how to effectively navigate these dynamic processes.
Jenny, what experience do you have in leading through change?
At the beginning of my career, I worked a lot with individual coaching, but quickly grew to lead larger change projects within various organizations and industries. From initially introducing a coaching approach within Telecom at Europolitan/Vodafone, to digitizing Göteborgs-Posten and Stampen Media in the transformation of business from print to online. Now I work in the SaaS industry to drive growth at Simployer, where acquisitions, speed and flexibility are crucial.
For me, the balance between organization, team and individual is important. By "organization" I mean steering the business towards profitability by focusing on customer and business value. I feel that we often forget the customer, even though it is for them that we want to create value. Choosing the right focus, daring to prioritize and finding the driving force among employees is crucial. That is how we unleash creativity, create a clear direction and make wise decisions in change.
How do you adapt your leadership style to the different phases of change?
Leading through change requires understanding when, how, and why the transformation is necessary. Each phase of the process demands a unique leadership style.
i) Initially, my focus is on ensuring everyone is on board. This involves listening, explaining, and envisioning the change – all with humility. We often change our office environment for new locations to strengthen team spirit and use the "Rose-Bud-Thorn" design-thinking method to identify what we should keep, develop, or discard. This way, we create a shared understanding that everyone values highly.
ii) When confusion arises, it's my job as a leader to create clarity, provide support, and guide through the uncertainty. It's important to keep our eyes on the goal, make progress visible, give feedback, and take small steps forward to avoid setbacks.
iii) Finally, when we feel satisfied and have reached our goals, it's important to celebrate! Highlight all efforts, reflect on what we've learned, and discuss future challenges and priorities. These are the moments that energize us to continue striving forward 😊
Changes affect us differently. As a leader, I need to relate to the change myself, lead towards the new direction, and simultaneously be a support for the team. Open dialogue, clear communication, and understanding of each other's roles and goals increase engagement. It's through these dynamics that strong teams are created, even when departmental boundaries are challenging.
Considering the rapid technological advancements, how do you view the future of leadership in change and growth?
As future leaders, we should see technology as an opportunity, while critically examining its effects and using innovation smartly. A strong vision and belief in the future, understanding of the mechanisms of change, and the ability to inspire, I think, are a magical combination for achieving success.
