Congratulations on your role as VP Sales & Marketing at solar cell company Epishine!
You are working in a hot industry driven by the change required to transition to a sustainable society.
What distinguishes Epishine's solar cells in the market?
Our solar cells are made of organic material and are optimized to convert indoor light into electricity and can be used in low-energy products, such as sensors that measure indoor temperature and humidity. Today, these are usually powered by disposable batteries, but with our solution, the products become more or less self-sufficient, which provides great environmental benefits and also cost savings as you avoid replacing batteries.
When do you think the market for indoor solar cells will explode?
Right now, there is an enormous digitalization of commercial properties with a focus on optimizing operation and maintenance. The reason is that buildings are one of the largest energy consumers globally, and there are great opportunities to reduce energy consumption, which is a must if we are to reach the Paris Agreement. Digitalization requires a large number of sensors, which today are mostly powered by disposable batteries, something that is bad both from an environmental point of view and that leads to expensive maintenance. Here we see a great potential to create a much more sustainable and cheaper solution with the help of our solar cells, which will lead to a large growth in the market. There are also discussions within the EU to limit the use of disposable batteries, which will further accelerate the transition to light operation of sensors and electronics.
What challenges are you facing right now?
As with all new disruptive technology, it is a challenge to get out on the market, but we already have several customers whose products are available, which has created an even greater demand. Our biggest challenge right now is to build capacity to meet demand, and therefore we will start up a larger production facility as early as next spring.
Can I, as a consumer, buy your products on the market today?
The products that are out right now with our solar cells are aimed at commercial properties. But we have several exciting projects underway for consumer products, so in the near future it is possible.
